Meal prep is only a win if you actually eat it while it’s good. Here’s how I tell my clients to plan the week.
The 3 to 4 day rule
Most cooked food is best within 3 to 4 days in the fridge. That’s the USDA’s guidance for leftovers, and it’s what I go by. Chicken, beef, rice and veggie bowls all fall in that window.
Seafood goes first
Eat seafood meals within 3 days. In The Catch box, I always tell people to eat the seafood early in the week.
Freeze what you won’t get to
Know you won’t touch Friday’s meal until the weekend? Pop it in the freezer the day you get it. Thaw it in the fridge overnight, not on the counter.
Reheat it right
Heat until it’s hot all the way through. Stir halfway if you’re using the microwave so there are no cold spots. My containers come labeled with reheating notes.
Keep your fridge cold
Your fridge should sit at 40°F or below. If yours runs warm, food won’t last as long.
