Done right, start to finish
I’m a loctician who’s lived the loc journey myself, so I know the patience it takes, from baby locs through the awkward phase to mature locs you’re proud of.
Starting fresh or keeping up mature locs, I focus on healthy roots, clean parts and locs that stay strong. No over-twisting, no shortcuts.
Every style here is one I’ve done myself. See something you love? Send me the photo.
How booking works
- Text me a photo of your locs (or your hair, for starters).
- I send your quote and open dates.
- A $25 deposit holds a retwist ($50 for other loc services); it comes off your total.
- Come with locs clean and dry unless a wash is booked.

Quick answers
How often should you retwist locs?
Every 4 to 6 weeks works for most people. Mature locs can sometimes go a little longer.
How do you wash locs?
Use a residue-free shampoo, focus on the scalp, squeeze the suds through the locs, rinse well, and dry them completely.
How much does a loc retwist cost in Los Angeles?
At Mz Purple, retwists start at $100, or $125 for shoulder length and longer. The final price is set at your consultation.
What are the stages of starter locs?
Starter (baby) locs, budding, the awkward phase, teen locs, and mature locs. Mature locs usually come somewhere after the first year.
How often should you retwist starter locs?
About every 4 to 6 weeks, and avoid twisting them at home in between. Over-twisting can thin the roots.
Can you wash starter locs?
Yes. A stocking cap can help keep them from unraveling at first. Use a light, residue-free shampoo and let them dry fully.
