Starting locs takes patience. I know because I
Starting locs is a journey. I know because I’ve lived it.rsquo;ve done it myself. My own loc journey is right there on my home page, day one to now.
The stages
Starter (baby) locs. Your hair is sectioned and started with coils, two-strand twists or interlocking, depending on your texture and length. They look neat and defined.
Budding. A few months in, your locs start to swell and get a little fuzzy. Little knots form inside. This is your hair actually locking.
The awkward phase. Real talk, this is where people quit. Frizz, puffiness, locs going every direction. Push through it. It passes.
Teen locs. They start hanging down, getting heavier, and holding their shape.
Mature locs. Solid, smooth, and yours. This usually comes somewhere after the first year, sometimes longer.
How often should you retwist starter locs?
Gentle is the word. Early on I like about every 4 to 6 weeks, and I don’t want you twisting them at home in between. Over-twisting baby locs can thin your roots.
Washing starter locs
Yes, you can wash them. Some people use a stocking cap at first to keep them from unraveling. Use a light, residue-free shampoo and let them dry all the way.
Starter locs start at $150. Final price is set at your consultation, depending on your length and how many locs you want.
