What you do between appointments matters just as much as the retwist. Here’s what I tell everybody who sits in my chair.
Cover them at night
Satin or silk bonnet, scarf or pillowcase. Every night. It keeps lint out and your retwist crisp a lot longer.
How to wash locs
Wash on a regular schedule with a residue-free shampoo. Focus on your scalp, squeeze the suds through your locs, and rinse really well. Then dry them all the way through. Damp locs that sit wet can start to smell, and nobody wants that.
Go light on product
A little light oil on your scalp is plenty. Heavy creams and waxes build up inside your locs over time.
Leave your roots alone
I know it’s tempting to twist your new growth every day. Don’t. Too much handling thins your roots. Let it grow and save the retwist for me.
How often should you retwist locs?
For most people, every 4 to 6 weeks feels right. Mature locs can sometimes go a little longer. Retwists start at $100 (shoulder length from $125), and your final price is set at your consultation.
