Doing kids’ hair is some of my favorite work. Those smiles when they see the beads? Priceless.
Gentle first, always
I braid kids with light tension. Little scalps are tender and their edges are still growing, so I never pull tight to make a style last longer. If your baby is crying in the chair, something’s wrong. We take breaks, we snack, we watch a show.
Styles parents ask for
- Knotless or box braids with beads
- Cornrows (straight back, or a fun design)
- Lemonade and Fulani-inspired styles
- Twists and puffs for the little ones
How long do kids’ braids last?
Usually 3 to 5 weeks. Kids play hard and sleep wild, so they don’t last as long as adult braids, and that’s okay. Cornrows sit closer to the scalp, so plan on about 2 to 3 weeks.
Keeping them neat for school
A satin bonnet or pillowcase at night is the big one. Wipe the scalp with a little light oil a couple times a week. And if beads start sliding, bring them back and I’ll tighten them up.
Kids’ braids start at $60, kids’ box braids from $100 and cornrows from $45. Final price is set at your consultation. Bring a picture of the style your child wants!
